GE Energy has signed a Contractual Service Agreement with the Egyptian Operating Company for Natural Gas Liquefaction Projects S.A.E. (Egyptian LNG) covering two LNG trains at the Idku LNG plant about 40 kilometers east of Alexandria, Egypt. The first LNG train at the Idkru LNG plant began operating in March and the second is scheduled to start operations soon. Under the 14-year deal, GE will provide maintenance services for 12 gas turbines and 20 gas compressors at Idku.

In other news, GE announced that its Oil & Gas business unit, following a strategic agreement signed in December 2004 with Qatar Petroleum Group for the supply of equipment and services, has received orders to build five additional GE-designed liquefied natural gas (LNG) "super-trains." The agreement follows the announcement in February 2004 that GE is supplying the first "super-train" (the first compressor train to be driven by GE Frame 9E gas turbines) for the Qatargas II LNG project...
