Columbia, NiSource Shareholders Approve Merger
Columbia Energy Group's shareholders voted on June 2 to approve a merger with NiSource Inc. NiSource shareholders approved the merger a day earlier. Following regulatory approval and closing of the transaction, Columbia shareholders will receive approximately $6 billion in cash and stock with another $2.5 billion in Columbia debt to be assumed by a new NiSource holding company. The new company will be the largest natural gas distributor east of the Rocky Mountains, serving more than 4 million customers in nine states.
